Quick Start

This Quick Start explains step-by-step how to download and install planlauf/TERRAIN and how to use some of the basic functions. Please download the ZIP-package 'Germany_Odenthal_HikingTrail_Schwarzpulverroute.zip' that is used for the demo and save it to your documents folder. planlauf/TERRAIN will unzip the file and save the contents in the folder you specify.

  1. Go to the download page.
  2. Download planlaufTERRAIN2017_Setup.exe.
  3. Run the file and follow the instructions.

Run planlauf/TERRAIN and click 'Try'.

  1. Click on the 'Open' icon.
  2. Select 'Zip package'.
  3. Choose the file 'Germany_Odenthal_HikingTrail_Schwarzpulverroute.zip' and click 'Open'.
  1. Select a folder to where the files in the Zip-package can be copied.
  2. Click 'OK'.
  1. The toolbar offers commands to manipulate the view (e.g., pan, zoom, rotate). Select a command and move the mouse while holding the left button. On a touchscreen, select a command and move one finger on the screen.
  2. You can use the viewcube to set standard views. Click on any face/edge/corner of the cube or rotate the model by holding the mouse/finger down on the ring.
  3. Hold the middle mouse button and move the mouse to rotate the model. If you press SHIFT or CONTROL and do the same you can zoom or rotate. On a touchscreen, use one finger to rotate and two fingers to zoom or pan the model.
  4. Locations are marked with pins. Click on a pin to open its settings (see below).
  5. GPS or manually created tracks are marked with squares. Click on a track symbol to open its settings and show its height profile (see below).

  2. Click on the picture to open the viewer (only pictures of this pin are shown in it).
  3. Click 'OK'.

  2. Click on the white bar and move the current location pin around.
  3. Click 'OK'.
  1. Click on the 'Bings Maps' icon.
  2. Click on 'Zoom to Current 3D View' to adjust the view.
  3. Pan and zoom with the left mouse button and the mousewheel. On a touchscreen, use one finger to pan and two fingers to zoom.
  4. Click on the 'Bing Maps' icon to close the viewer.
  1. Click on the 'More' icon.
  2. Click on the 'Fly-through' icon.
  1. Select the track 'Hiking Trail Schwarzpulverroute'.
  2. Click on 'Play Track'.
  1. The Fly-through starts automatically. Move the white bar to go forward or backward on the track.
  2. Click on the 'Close' icon.
  1. Click on the 'Camera' icon to open the viewer (if you do so during GPS logging, a pin with a picture will be added).
  2. Click on 'Next Picture' to browse all the pictures referenced by this terrain file.
  3. Click on the 'Close' icon.
  1. Click on the "Section Plane' icon.
  2. Adjust the height slider by clicking on it and moving the mouse.
  1. Click on the 'Settings' icon.
  2. Check the option 'Tablet Mode' (activates fullscreen mode and Touch keyboard).
  3. Click 'OK'.
